170 students from Canepa School of Dance in Baraboo and Lake Delton will present their 2009 summer dance recitals at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 18 -19, at the historic Al Ringling Theatre on the square in Baraboo.
Dancers of all ages will present ballet, hip-hop, jazz, and tap routines learned during the 9-week summer session.
Under the direction of Bertie Canepa Reifsteck, the students are excited to perform at the historic Al Ringling Theatre and to support Camp Wawbeek-Easter Seals of Wisconsin. The recitals provide entertainment for young and old, with lively music and entertaining routines for all to watch. Canepa School of Dance brings together over 55 years of history in the Wisconsin area. Students from Baraboo, Reedsburg, Lake Delton, Wisconsin Dells, Portage, Briggsville and Rock Springs join in the fun.
According to Bertie Canepa Reifsteck, Director of Canepa School of Dance, "Our annual donations to Camp Wawbeek are so important." In a recent letter, Ken Saville, Vice President, Program Development of Easter Seals said, "$800 of the $1000 from last year's proceeds had been spent on much needed extra dishes for camp, camper medical supplies, life jackets, and sleeping bags."
Saville said that with the summer being more than half over, many new life jackets and sleeping bags will be needed in the future. "These two items tend to take a beating during the summer," Saville said.
Further commenting on the 2009 Canepa School of Dance summer session, Canepa Reifsteck said weekly staff meetings helped to build this summer's show from the ground up. "My favorite part of this summer
was developing choreography by building up the teachers' arsenal of age appropriate dance combinations and technique. We had a bit of a "teaching academy" going on and the teamwork escalated to a very cohesive and productive teaching staff." Canepa Reifsteck said, "We loved the work!"
